Choose the kind of heat you enjoy
Spice in a cocktail can mean fresh chili, hot sauce, sharp ginger, or the aromatic bite of bitters. These drinks cover that range, with a warm rum-and-tea option as well. They do not all have chili heat, so use the notes below to find the style you want.
Chili heat, ginger bite, or aromatic spice
Picante de la Casa combines tequila, chili, cilantro, lime, and agave. Bloody Mary gets its heat from Tabasco. Moscow Mule and Dark and Stormy use ginger beer, while El Diablo uses ginger ale with tequila and blackcurrant liqueur. Mike Kenney pairs whiskey with ginger beer; Penicillin brings ginger liqueur, lemon, and honey syrup.
Beyond the chili cocktail
Trinidad Sour makes Angostura bitters a main ingredient rather than a finishing dash. Grog is warming from hot black tea and rum, with lemon for brightness. For a nonalcoholic option, choose Ginger Lemonade. Chili strength and ginger mixers vary, so taste your ingredients before mixing.
